The Lotus Blossom

At the conclusion of classes, we always enjoy The Lotus Qigong set of movements, a beautifully visual story of an Emperor and his peaceful world.

The lotus flower is symbolic of harmony, purity, rebirth, strength, integrity and resilience.  Rooting themselves in mud, their long stems reach upward, finally rising to the top of the water.  Their petals unfold one by one, unstained by the muddy waters.  A protective coating repels dirt, water and mud so each of the petals is pristine.  Only flowering during the day, they close up at night and submerge ready to resurface above the water.

The different colours of the flowers also have significance:

  • The red lotus flower signifies love, care, affection, and romance

  • The white lotus flower symbolizes peace, purity, and calmness

  • The blue lotus flower, which is the rarest one, symbolizes a spirit’s victory over wisdom and knowledge.

  • The pink lotus flower symbolizes spiritual path & enlightenment.

 The Lotus Qigong

The Emperor rises in the morning and looks out over the lake.

He sees the turtle swimming.

On the shores of the lake a snow rabbit digs in the snow.

A fair maiden gathers the water and sprinkles it on the lotus bulbs.

The lotus buds begin to form, and to bloom.

The wind blows the flowers to the East and to the West.

The flowers lift their heads to the sun and scatter their seeds to the earth.

On the shores of the lake the white crane spreads its wings to dry –

first one, then the other.

The year has come full circle and the snow rabbit digs in the snow once again.

The Emperor looks out over the lake and sees his world is at peace.
